Talking to Trees is an experiential course in learning how to slow down, listen deeply, and relate to the natural world in a more attentive and personal way.

Why talk to trees? Because conversation does not always have to involve words. Trees communicate through form, movement, scent, texture, seasonality, and their relationships with the wider ecosystem. When we learn to observe them more closely, we also begin to notice what is happening within ourselves—our thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, intuition, and inner responses.

Through sensory practices, observation, reflection and guided exercises, participants will explore different ways of “listening” to trees — not necessarily expecting them to speak back in words, but becoming more receptive to what arises when we give another living being our full attention.

Ultimately, talking to trees is also a practice of learning to listen to ourselves. It can help us cultivate deeper presence, self-awareness, intuition, self-trust, curiosity, and a greater sense of connection with life around us.

You do not need to believe that trees can literally speak. You only need to be curious enough to listen.

Note from Jovena

Connecting with trees can feel like a peculiar thing in our hyper logical modern world - this was my starting point too. Yet in my first time experiencing forest bathing as a participant, I met a tree that convinced me that there is more to this world than meets the eye. At a time when I felt lost and confused about who I was, the tree unexpectedly gave me a piece of wise advice - “grow towards the light, and share your gifts with the world”. This advice saved me.

How did I hear it? How could I hear it? This mystery stuck with me as I journeyed on as a forest bathing guide, and further encounters with several trees helped me to understand that all beings in the world are sentient - aware, responsive and knowledgeable. It is human arrogance that makes us believe intelligence, emotion, and consciousness belong to us alone, simply because other beings speak in languages we do not readily understand.

I carefully tread the line between reality and spirituality. This course is grounded in ecological knowledge and the natural world, while inviting us to keep an open mind and heart to the possibilities of deeper connection.
